Our story
Hibiscus Coast, Auckland has its own celebrity tourist attraction — the New Zealand Walk of Fame is most definitely a place to visit if you're a fan of Kiwi memorabilia.
The New Zealand Walk of Fame plays a significant role in promoting famous New Zealand entertainers in cinema, music, theatre, radio, and television. It serves as a platform to celebrate their achievements and contributes to the story of New Zealand's cultural evolution.
We envisage that this will be an inspiration for aspiring artists, by displaying the names and achievements of famous New Zealand entertainers. It can show them that success in the entertainment industry is attainable for New Zealanders nationwide and internationally.
The Walk of Fame also features individuals who have made significant contributions to preserving and promoting not only Māori and Pacific, but all of New Zealand's wonderful entertainment and cultural heritage. We believe this helps raise awareness of the rich and diverse cultural traditions of our communities.
It also serves as an educational tool, providing information about the people being honoured and their contributions — helping the general public, as well as visitors to New Zealand, learn more about our unique entertainment influences.
Launched with a star
The Walk of Fame was created by Orewa local, entrepreneur and professional entertainer Gary Brown.
It was launched on 1 July 2010, with the first star placed on Orewa Boulevard by iconic Kiwi entertainer Ray Woolf MNZM — as pictured here.
Since then, numerous stars have been placed on Orewa Boulevard honouring famous Kiwi entertainers — some of whom, sadly, have already passed on. Their stars keep their names in public, at ground level, where anyone can find them.
